Alex Rios making debut for White Sox
SEATTLE(AP) -- Alex Rios is debuting for the White Sox, rested and
ready to jump into a playoff race.
The two-time All-Star was in right field and batting third for
Chicago's series finale at Seattle on Wednesday night. It's the
first time in his 810-game career that Rios is playing for
someone other than the Blue Jays.
Chicago claimed Rios off waivers Monday and assumed at least
$61.6 million on his contract that runs through 2014, with a
team option for 2015.
Chicago began the night two games behind first-place Detroit in
the AL Central.
Slumping Jermaine Dye was manager Ozzie Guillen's first choice
to rest while Rios played. Dye is on a 1-for-18 skid and batting
.156 since the All-Star break.
Guillen has said he will rotate days off for all his outfielders
and DH Jim Thome.
